Young Woman Contemplating

March 19, 2020

We know parents are struggling to balance work, child care and self-care while keeping worries — both your children’s and your own — under control.

Self Care and stress reduction is so important right now, especially when many of the ways we used to self soothe are being restricted; enjoying meals or drinks at restaurants, having to stay home due to lack of work, working from home with children afoot, gyms are closed and exercise options are limited at home, regular recreational activities and places are closed.

What do we have control over and access to, to help us feel better these days?  A couple of ideas:

  • Restrict your access to social media and news sources.  The onslaught of information we have access to is not always truthful and many times is fear mongering.

  • Find ways to have healthy boundaries at home with the people you live with. Quiet time alone can be scheduled should and respected.

  • Don't discount simple walks outside as a stress reliever.

  • Emphasize healthy eating choices when you can.

  • Be as flexible and forgiving as you can be.  Remember little annoyances can fester into larger resentments.
