New Leaf Couseling

About Us
New Leaf Counseling is a local Antioch small business that has been serving the community's mental health needs in the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin area since 2017.
Over the past six years we have grown from one counselor in a tiny 3rd floor small office to now a group of fifteen counselors and office staff in a beautiful fully remodeled medical space. We also serve students onsite at local area schools.
We are a skilled group with experience in school social work, mandated and incarcerated clients, chronic mental illness, families, divorce and co-parenting, marital counseling, and lots of other things on your mind, such as depression, anxiety. We are licensed in both Illinois and Wisconsin.

Michaela Hartzer, LCPC
Children, Teens, Adults, Trauma, Pregnancy
My client centered approach is interactive, warm, and accepting. I make it my job to help give my clients their voice back and provide a safe space to express themselves. This gives me the ability to build strong relationships with my clients so that I can guide them through solutions / situational responses, and the tools needed to help them with their problems. Nothing makes me happier than helping my clients feel better, so they can live better!

Laurie Retzky, LCSW
Teens, Adults, Telehealth Only
Much of my work focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behavior (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). I also use trauma-informed techniques such as the Trauma Narrative and Mindfulness when working with clients who are dealing with depression, anxiety and a history of trauma. My goal is to be a consistent, caring presence in your life so you can experience a positive emotional experience. This may be a “corrective experience” to overcome inadequate ones from the past.
I am always seeking to identify the many strengths that clients bring to the clinical setting. I like to help clients recognize what is going “right” in addition to what is going “wrong”. I use humor (when appropriate), and believe that with a caring, supportive relationship the clients I work with can find hope, peace, and joy.

Michelle Marschel, APSW

I am passionate about helping clients nurture their relationship with themselves and others to blossom into meaningful connections through every season of life.
